We Believe in Kids!

We believe in the healing power of laughter.
We believe every child has the right to play, to dream and to sing.
We believe in the comforting power of really listening to parents and their children.
Most of all…we believe in kids.

Kids on the Move is dedicated to serving children of all ages with rehabilitation needs, providing physical, occupational and speech-language therapy services to children from birth to 21 years of age. Whether they come to us for developmental delays or genetic disorders, we believe that every child should have access to the highest quality pediatric rehabilitation care they need to thrive and grow.

At Kids on the Move we are committed to providing family-centered care that is based on the individual needs of each child. Working closely with families, schools and other community resources we work to ensure that each child reaches their highest potential.

Founded in 1995, Kids on the Move was created to fill a void that was left in the medical community when pediatric rehabilitation services were eliminated at an area institution.  Now a program of the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, Kids on the Move is the only pediatric rehabilitation program within a 60-mile radius of Rutland, Vermont.

Kids on the Move provides therapy in the homes of the families it serves, through six different school districts in and around Rutland County, and via consultative services to clinics held in Rutland, Brattleboro and Bennington, Vermont.

Kids on the Move Services

Individualized Therapy
Our pediatric-trained therapists tailor therapy to each child’s developmental stage and individual needs for the most effective results. We provide home-based services and consult with area schools.  Therapists work closely with family members, doctors, therapists and other caregivers to maximize progress for each child.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy utilizes a child’s “occupation” of play, self-care, school and community activities to promote greater independence throughout life. Our Therapists focus on development and promote independence in the areas of fine motor, self-care, perceptual, cognitive and social skills and adaptive technology.

Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy is the art and science of using exercises and activities to promote wellness, detect impairments and improve function. Our Physical Therapists strive to help children with a multitude of diagnoses improve strength, balance, coordination, and endurance so they can function to their full potential in all aspects of their lives.

Speech Therapy
Kids on the Move’s ASHA-certified and state licensed Speech-Language Pathologists serve children who exhibit a wide range of diagnoses and disabilities. We promote the development of functional communication within the home and community, as well as address feeding, swallowing, and oral motor deficits, social language skills, peer interaction and developmental play.

Children with high tech nursing needs receive specialized health care services in familiar and nurturing surroundings with love and support from their families.

The RAVNAH High-Tech team is composed of registered nurses with specialized training in children and family health. Our skilled staff makes a positive difference in the lives of children and families through compassionate care, family education and support.

Our nursing staff cares for all ages from the tiniest premature infants through end of life care.

We work closely with physicians, physical, occupational and speech therapists, nutritionists and many other community resources to provide the seamless health care your child deserves. A few examples of clients served are those with tracheostomies, feeding tubes, ventilators and infusion therapy.

“We are very lucky that in Vermont we have a Pedi Hi-Tech Program for fragile children,” explains Mona Rickert, RN, Pediatric Hi-Tech Manager. “Kids deserve to be in the home surrounded by loving family—it’s so important to their growth and development.

“I hope this program will continue to be available to all Vermonters,” affirms Mona. “When fragile children are cared for in the home—as opposed to an even more expensive hospital or nursing home—surrounded by familiar people and pets, and the aroma of home-cooked meals, they develop by leaps and bounds.”

Here is just one of our many success stories.
